Can I Play a Japanese or PAL PSX game on a backwards compatible 80GB PS3?

I got an 80GB CECHE01 Backwards Compatible Playstation 3 and want to play Aqua GT for the Playstation 1 on it, and I am wondering if I can play it on there. No results about mod chips or cheats and such please.
