Would this be a good alternative to the wedding photo that guests sign?

I like the idea of signing around a photo but I wanted something different since my reception is in a rustic barn in a pasture (but not too country). I thought about having a photo but around the photo use a cork board mat. Then have little slips of paper that match my colors and guests can sign them and attach them to the cork with some type of tack or straight pin. Do you think this is a unique idea...or dumb?!?
